Fleeting Visions
This is a cycle of four settings of poems by Dunedin poet Ruth Dallas. It was performed in October 1997 by distinguished Eastman soprano Elizabeth Phillips and an ad hoc student string quartet. This recording is of the first movement only. The cycle has since received two very fine performances by Deborah Wai Kapohe and the New Zealand String Quartet. I am hoping ConcertFM Radio will one day allow me to put this recording on my website.

Fleeting Visions #1
As an empty row-boat,
long moored to a willow
taken by the river’s flow
moves out to the open sea,
so our lives are severed.
I am that willow
rooted to the shore.
